The process of forming a government is currently under way. The Speaker has a central role when a new government is formed. The Speaker Andreas Norlén has given Stefan Löfven (Social Democratic Party) the task of exploring the possibilities of forming a government.

It has now been established how the Riksdag's 349 seats shall be distributed among the eight parties after the 2018 general election. Of the members elected to the new Riksdag, 54 per cent are men and 46 per cent are women. The youngest member is 22 years old, and the oldest is 85.

The Riksdag has approved several proposals for amendments to the Constitution during the 2014-2018 electoral period. Increased protection for transgender people, increased protection of personal privacy and amended rules regarding the Swedish National Audit Office are some of them. In order to make an amendment to the Constitution, however, the Riksdag needs to make an identical decision during the forthcoming electoral period after the elections.
